The brainchild of British-Palestinian designer, Fadi K Sarandah, Altar emulates its namesake to be a place of worship and a moment of pause. The fluid designs nod to the exoticism of lands afar - the African Savannah and the Islands of the Pacific - and savour moments in history - Marrakesh in the 70s, pulsating Miami of the 90s, optimism of the 50s. An assemblage, where nostalgia meets modernity; where fabrics and silhouettes of a bygone era appear alongside contemporary digitised prints, perfectly intertwined with modern techniques This juxtaposition of traditional and forward-thinking, luxurious and understated, robust and graceful is ‘modernity in of itself’. The Altar spirit is sophisticated, charismatic, intellectual and values freedom above all else. A fashion-fluent maverick who dresses effortlessly.
“Developing healthy empathy and respectful regard for the ‘other’ is inherent to my work. The ‘other’ can be another time, culture, opinion, species or landscape.” Fadi explains. Seeing Nature as a perfect manifestation of Beauty and Creation and trying to emulate this perfection is central to Altar's philosophy.
